The International Space Station
The International Space Station in Orbit around Earth

Thanet Astronomy Group were given the fantastic opportunity to monitor the link-up between the children at Wellesley House School (Broadstairs) and Major Tim Peake on the International Space Station on SATURDAY 23rd APRIL 2016, at 1:00pm.

Loads of People came and joined us for this extremely rare and amazing event at :-

see our Location Page for a detailed map.

West Bay Cafe, Sea Road, Westgate-on-Sea, CT8 8QA, from 12:00 midday. The link-up started at 1:10pm and lasted for about 13 minutes as the Space Station passed over head.

We set up a radio link to listen to the children at Wellesley House School talking to Tim Peake on the Space Station. We had video from the school and the Space Station along with displays showing the Space Station's position in orbit above the earth, a chase view of the Space Station orbiting the earth and a view of where the Space Station is in the local sky.

We really appreciated the opportunity given to us by Wellesley House School to participate in this event, and the technical support of our groups members that are also qualified radio amateurs.
